About Roper Art

My formative years were spent in small western towns on the prairie and along the Missouri River. Though I haven’t lived in the west for many years, I still consider myself a westerner and carry its influences.

I spent my working career as a technical illustrator with the Boeing Company, staff artist with the Army Corps of Engineers, and as Senior Graphic Designer and Art Director for graphic design, advertising, and packaging firms across the midwest before operating as an independent  graphic & exhibit designer.

After a thirty year-plus professional career, I revived my interest in painting, focusing on ‘biographical landscapes’ that reflect the curiosity, wonder and awe that I continue to experience as a student of painting and as a product of the west.

As a student of the craft each new painting presents it’s own challenges and discoveries as the subject matter becomes a visual record of  notable memories, places and events of my experiences.

I have exhibited multiple times at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Western Spirit Art Show, Cheyenne Wyoming, participated in The American Plains Artists 2018 and 2020 exhibits at Fort Concho, Texas, held a solo exhibit at Yankton Area Arts G.A.R. Hall, Yankton, SD and at Diamonds Coffee Shop, Minneapolis, MN and am a multi-year participant in the Fine Arts Exhibit at the Minnesota State Fair.
